IMD Warns of Thundershowers and Lightning in 16 Odisha Districts: Stay Weather-Ready!

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional center in Bhubaneswar has issued a nowcast warning at 6.30 PM today, indicating the likelihood of thundershowers with lightning affecting various parts of 16 districts within the next three hours.

In the forecast, it is mentioned that moderate rain/thundershowers with lightning, along with one or two intense spells of rain, are expected in certain districts such as Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, and Jagatsinghpur within the next three hours. Additionally, light to moderate rain/thundershowers with lightning are expected in parts of Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khordha (including Bhubaneswar City), Cuttack (including Cuttack City), and Puri within the same timeframe.

The IMD has issued an ‘Orange’ warning for the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, and Jagatsinghpur, indicating a higher level of alert. For the remaining districts, a ‘Yellow’ warning has been issued, signifying a lower level of caution.

The IMD cautions that these weather conditions may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, occasional poor visibility, and disruptions in urban areas’ traffic. People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas and take measures for draining excess water.

Furthermore, individuals are urged to monitor the weather closely and consider relocating to safer locations to protect themselves from potential lightning strikes.
