Delayed Road Repairs in Cuttack Spark Public Outcry as High Court Deadline Passes
1 min readCuttack: 27/10/2013: The deadline set by the Orissa High Court for the completion of road repair works in Cuttack, which was October 27, has now passed. Despite extensive efforts by various agencies to meet the deadline, many roads in the city remain unrepaired. Residents are growing increasingly frustrated as the quality of the work that has been carried out appears to be haphazard and more like patchwork. In several areas of the city, the road repairs do not meet the expected standards.
Locals have pointed out that road repair activities are often conducted even during the Durga Puja season every year, causing inconveniences. Such repair work is not initiated before the Puja season, despite continuous concerns raised by puja committees and other stakeholders. This year, road repairs were carried out in the Jhanjir Managala area on Maha Ashtami, leading to traffic congestion.
The next High Court hearing will determine the facts presented by various departments regarding the status of road repairs in Cuttack. It’s worth noting that the Orissa High Court initially set the October 27, 2023 deadline for the construction and repair of all roads in Cuttack. Amicus Curiae informed the court that ongoing box drain work would extend until March 2024.
Officials from nine departments have testified before the High Court and outlined their positions on the road repair issue. The court has also warned of possible contempt of court proceedings against officials for any violations.
