Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing widespread rainfall, and this trend is expected to continue, as per the latest updates from the Meteorological Department. A low-pressure system currently affecting the region has triggered heavy rain across several parts of the state. Today, many locations are expected to receive moderate to heavy showers, with the northern parts of Odisha likely to experience more intense rainfall. The districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh are on alert for heavy downpours.

The rain is expected to persist in some parts of the state until Friday, after which a gradual decrease is forecasted. By Saturday, the intensity of the rainfall is expected to lessen significantly. However, the Met Department has predicted sporadic showers on Sunday, which could bring some relief to affected areas.

The current weather conditions are being driven by a cyclonic circulation that was positioned over Chhattisgarh and its surrounding areas as of Wednesday. This system has brought substantial rainfall to Odisha over the past 24 hours. The Regional Meteorological Department has noted significant rainfall records in various parts of the state during this period.

From 8:30 AM to 5 PM on Wednesday, the following rainfall amounts were recorded:

  • Talcher: 155 mm
  • Keonjhar: 84.4 mm
  • Angul: 60 mm
  • Bhadrak: 42.2 mm
  • Paradip: 31.3 mm
  • Baripada: 30.2 mm
  • Dhenkanal: 27.4 mm
  • Rourkela: 26.4 mm

These figures indicate that northern Odisha is bearing the brunt of the current low-pressure system. The heavy rain has resulted in waterlogging in some areas, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any flood-related incidents.
